calcination is a production process in which carbon raw materials

Calcination is a production process in which carbon raw materials are heat treated at high temperature to discharge the moisture and volatile matter contained therein and correspondingly improve the physical and chemical properties of raw materials. Generally, carbon raw materials are calcined with gas and its own volatile as the heat source, and the high temperature is 1250 – 1350 ℃.

(1) Calcination has made a profound change in the organizational structure and physical and chemical properties of carbon raw materials, which is mainly reflected in the improvement of the density, mechanical strength and conductivity of coke, the improvement of the chemical stability and oxidation resistance of coke, and the foundation for the subsequent process.

(2) Calcination equipment mainly includes tank calciner, rotary kiln and electric calciner. The calcination quality control index is that the true density of petroleum coke is not less than 2.07g/cm3, and the resistivity is not greater than 550 μ Ω. m. The true density of needle coke shall not be less than 2.12g/cm3, and the resistivity shall not be greater than 500 μ Ω. m。
